Fun Car Facts

We all love fun facts, don't we? Today, we thought it would be cool to share some fun facts about cars.

Fact #1 Did you know that the very first car to hit the road was a Benz? No, really. It was. German Inventor Karl Benz bought that vision to fruition in 1886 (well, the first time it hit the road was New Year’s Eve 1879). It was the first stationary gasoline engine and was a one-cylinder two-stroke unit. One of the first cars designed and built for the masses was our very own Model T manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Most of us already know that fun fact, but did you know these?

Fact #2 The world's record for replacing a car engine is 45 seconds, completed on a Ford Escort in 1985. Hmmm… do think they got it all locked down right??

Fact #3 Cruise control was developed by an annoyed blind man. He was annoyed with his friend, who while they were on horseback, would speed up when listening and slow down when talking. Ralph Teetor wanted consistency, so he spent ten years of his life developing this technology and finally patented it in 1945.

Fact #4 If you were a carjacker in South Africa between 1998 and 2001, things weren’t looking so good for you. In fact, BMW released a with flame throwing abilities to thwart potential carjackers. Yes, it was legal. No, they didn’t stop making it because that’s ghastly. They stopped because it wasn’t profitable.

Fact #5 Who doesn’t love a party? Oh… a Fiesta… Ford Fiesta. Apparently, the Ford Fiesta is the number one selling automobile in the UK. More than 4,000,000… more than all the people living in Lebanon. And before that, it was the Ford Escort. Makes sense, really… you need a tiny car to curve your way through the tiny roads over there.

Fact #6 Rolls Royce autos are not only a thing of beauty, but a thing of durability. 75% of all Rolls Royce autos ever made are still on the road. Hmmm… do think that’s because they don’t drive them that much…

Fact #7 Want to go to the moon? Well, it will only take you one month to drive there if you can maintain 60 mph. Who’s ready to give it a go?
