Getting Your Car Ready for Summertime
We're finally starting to transition to summer after our long winter. We put away our jackets and pull out our shorts and summer dresses. Even though our summer preparations are not as intense as some other parts of our country, there are still action items we like to cross off our to-do lists when the weather gets warmer. It can be easy to forget about the needs of our vehicles as we go into summer, but it’s something we shouldn’t forget.
Summer means warmer weather and this also means a change in tire pressure simply because of the change in the weather. Definitely check the pressure, but also take the time to check for wear and tear as well as tread depth. Rotate those tires regularly too and don’t forget about the care of your spare as well. No one wants to deal with a flat without a spare. When your tires are in good health, you get the best gas mileage and you’ll have the most control of your car as your tires will properly grip the road and hug the curves.
Did you know that more accidents happen in the summer than winter months? That’s because people are more cautious in poor weather than we are when the sun is fully shinning. There are also more cars on the road and that in and of itself is cause for more accidents. These are both reasons why you’ll want to have your brakes inspected along with the brake fluid itself.
Have all your fluids checked and have your oil changed. You’ll want to make sure you have plenty of washer fluid and coolant. No one wants to overheat while on a summer road trip. That’s the fastest way to ruin a vacation! While you’re under the hood, take a look at the health of your battery and if you see excessive corrosion, it might be a sign of a leaking battery.
The last thing on your list should be to thoroughly clean out your car. Vacuum up all the crumbs from winter snacking and throw out all the receipts that have made their way under the seats. Wipe down the interior and give the exterior a full wash and wax. That will help you get the most out of your paint job for as long as possible. All the other efforts go a long way into maximizing performance and extending the life of your vehicle.
